Shinedown is set to release their seventh studio album, Planet Zero, this spring. Planet Zero is Shinedown’s second studio album to be produced and mixed by the band’s bassist Eric Bass. The first album produced by Bass was Shinedown’s certified gold record, Attention Attention. The highly-acclaimed sixth album peaked at number 1 on Billboard’s Top Rock Albums, Top Alternative Albums, and Top Hard Rock Albums charts. Moreover, the album peaked at number 5 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart and entered the top 10 in four other countries. The release of Attention Attention also coincided with a feature film of the same name. The impressive visual representation of the album brought a narrative focusing on mental health and humanity. The story weaves in the fourteen tracks from the record, creating an otherworldly dimension.
With regards to Planet Zero, lead singer Brent Smith mentioned that the record’s music style would be much more stripped-down compared to the band's previous works. He also noted that some lyrics may be controversial as the record tackles today’s issues, such as mental health and the effects of social media and cancel culture. Planet Zero contains twenty tracks, including the lead single, “Planet Zero,” which peaked at number 1 on the Mainstream Rock Airplay chart.
